City of Atlantic City Awarded Additional Money for Fire Station 2 Preservation as Exterior Work Nears Completion

Posted Wednesday, August 6, 2025
Mayor Marty Small, Sr. announced the City of Atlantic City has been awarded an additional $750,000 African American Civil Rights Grant to preserve the interior of the 103-year-old Fire Station 2 at the corner of Indiana and Baltic Avenues. This grant is in addition to the $750,000 New Jersey Historic Trust Grant awarded to Atlantic City earlier this year for interior preservation. These grants will fund the restoration of the remaining interior historic finishes like expanding the kitchen facilities and improving the dormitory areas while upgrading the building's HVAC, electrical services and plumbing. The City of Atlantic City previously secured a $750,000 African American Civil Rights Grant and a $750,000 New Jersey Historic Trust Grant for preservation of the station’s exterior. The building required exterior work because of water infiltration that has cracked and spalled the extensive poured-in-place concrete used for foundation walls, floor slabs and to encase steel columns and beams.  All three roofs are being replaced, and the exterior masonry was repointed, and wall flashing replaced, both to repair earlier non-historic repairs and to protect from further water infiltration.

The exterior work is expected to be completed before the end of 2025. Interior work is expected to begin in Spring 2026.

Law Enforcement and Community Spirit Highlight Atlantic City National Night Out

Posted Wednesday, August 6, 2025
Atlantic City’s annual National Night Out celebration brought the community together in a big way on August 5th, transforming Pete Pallitto Field into a hub of unity, safety, and fun. Hundreds of residents showed up to connect with their neighbors and meet the dedicated Atlantic City First Responders who work daily to keep the city safe.

The event, part of a nationwide initiative promoting police-community partnerships, was filled with family-friendly activities, free food, music, games, and resources, plus the ever-so-popular bicycle raffle at the end of the event. During National Night Out, kids had the chance to sit in emergency vehicles, witness a K-9 demonstration, and interact with our police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and more.

The City of Atlantic City extends a heartfelt thank you to our law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS teams, and all the community partners who helped organize and support this incredible evening. Their dedication not only made the event possible but also reaffirmed their role as trusted pillars of the community!

The City of Atlantic City is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our Chief of Staff and longtime public servant, Ernest D. Coursey, Sr.
